Gear:

Over the years, I have tried a many different instrument/string/pickup/amplifier combinations, and right now, I'm really happy with what I have in my arsenal:

Basses:

  • AlterEGO 4-string Figaro Acoustic EUB (Electric Upright Bass) - read a review of the bass
  • French, 1880s double bass
  • German, 1964 hybrid double bass (carved top, plywood body) - 1991-2007
  • Alembic Series II electric bass
  • Yamaha BB330F fretless electric bass with Bartolini pickups
  • Fender 1970s P-bass (sold in 1989)

Amplifiers:

  • Gallien Krueger MB110 combo amp (I have owned about 4 of these)
  • Gallien Krueger MDL 400RB III head

Speakers:

  • SWR Workingman's 1x15T cabinet
  • Hartke 210 TP cabinet

As for pickups, I have tried the Fishman (the bridge pickup, not the sound post pickup), the Barcus-Berry, Underwood, and Realist. Currently, I use a Realist on my French double bass and carry an Underwood as spare. The EUB has proprietary piezos under each foot and is blended with a Schertler (as you can see in the review).
