Gear:
Over
the years, I have tried a many different instrument/string/pickup/amplifier
combinations, and right now, I'm really happy with what I have in my arsenal:
Basses:
- AlterEGO 4-string Figaro Acoustic EUB (Electric Upright Bass) - read
a review of the bass
- French, 1880s double bass
- German, 1964 hybrid double bass (carved top, plywood body) - 1991-2007
- Alembic Series II electric bass
- Yamaha BB330F fretless electric bass with Bartolini pickups
- Fender 1970s P-bass (sold in 1989)
Amplifiers:
- Gallien Krueger MB110 combo amp (I have owned about 4 of these)
- Gallien Krueger MDL 400RB III head
Speakers:
- SWR Workingman's
1x15T cabinet
- Hartke 210 TP
cabinet
As for pickups,
I have tried the Fishman (the bridge pickup, not the sound post pickup),
the Barcus-Berry, Underwood, and Realist. Currently, I use a Realist
on my French double bass and carry an Underwood as spare. The EUB
has proprietary piezos under each foot and is blended with a Schertler
(as you can see in the review).
