Hello and happy October!
I remember thinking, last spring, "I really want to have an autumn filled with music." Well, I got it. There are SO many great things ahead! Right now, my main focus is on bringing my Trio back to Cambridge. We are thrilled to be playing at the Mad Monkfish for the first time, on October 15, at 7pm. The band is fantastic - Sheryl Bailey on guitar and Yoron Israel on drums. It's a blast to share the stage with them, every time.
Mad Monkfish has a ticket presale policy for artists, so if you are even remotely thinking about swinging by, PLEASE pick up some tickets ahead of time. Unless we meet a certain threshold in presales, our show will get cancelled.
Pick up your tickets here.
Also in October:
Oct. 10, 7pm - Russ Gershon Trio at Oggi Gourmet in Harvard Square (great food, ESP level connection in this group. Be sure to catch our special, "Hubris" set.)
Oct. 16, 8pm - Dave Bryant's Third Thursdays at Harvard-Epworth Church in Harvard Square. Playing with Dave is always a blast, and playing with drummer James Kamal Jones is one of the most wonderfully intense musical experiences I have ever had.
Oct. 18, 4pm - I am PSYCHED to be playing in Amanda Monaco's Deathblow North band, with Amanda (guitar, compositions), Allan Chase (saxophones) and Francisco Mela (drums). I haven't played with Mela in like 25 years or something, so this will be a blast. This is at the Lily Pad in Cambridge.
Oct 24, 8pm - Listen to This returns to the Boston Harbor Distillery. The band is killer and our source material - electric era Miles Davis - is legendary.
And looking out on the horizon:
Nov. 9, 5pm - Introducing the Mandela Collective! This project has taken a year or so to get off the ground, but it will be very special. This year, we will be honoring George Russell, and performing his late 1950s-early 1960s small group music. More later, but for now, here's a link to tickets. Be sure to put this on your calendar.
Dec. 17, 7:30pm - The triumphant return of the Either/Orchestra, playing at Regattabar on our 40th anniversary (I have been in the band for 28 years!). This will sell out, so be sure to grab tickets now.
Ok, so that's it for now. More music soon, for sure, and in the meantime, please be sure to pick up tickets to the Rick McLaughlin Trio at Mad Monkfish on October 15. I hope to see you there! [N.B., that may or may not be the day after my birthday...]
Thanks and see you soon!
Rick
