Good evening!
October is winding down, and I'm looking closely at the next few weeks of great concerts, hoping you will swing by some of them! Beyond the music, beyond the venues, beyond the basses, there are so many incredible musicians to share the stage with. In the next couple weeks, I'll be playing with these incredible musicians:
Sheryl Bailey, Dave Bryant, Amaury Cabral, Allan Chase, Harvey Diamond, Russ Gershon, Yoron Israel, James Kamal Jones, Peter Kenagy, Joe Mulholland, Alberto Netto, Randy Pingrey, Liz Sinn, Brooke Sofferman
Obviously not on every gig! But swing by any of the following because all of them are going to be an adventure (please note that Triptych Project pre-sales really matter!).
Nov 5, 6:30pm - Medford Public Library, Medford, MA - a lecture/performance with my Trio, featuring Sheryl Bailey and Yoron Israel. First, we will talk about the creative process, music making, how jazz musicians related to one another, and then demonstrate some of these topics with a concert.
Nov 6, 7pm - Mad Monkfish, Cambridge, MA - the debut performance of a new trio I am in, Triptych Project. A year or so ago, Alberto Netto (drums), Joe Mulholland (piano), and I started getting together for a one hour workouts. The idea was to play difficult music for about an hour, and then call it a day. Slowly but surely, this workout concept turned difficult music into fun music - so, that's the deal with this group - make hard music sound fun. Please purchase tickets to our debut performance ahead of time, since pre-sales matter at the Mad Monkfish.
Nov 8, 7pm - Oggi Gourmet, Cambridge MA - I love playing with the Russ Gershon Trio. We have way too much fun. Definitely put this on the list for great pizza, drinks, and for music ranging from jazz classics to The Monkees to Sun Ra, and sometimes, a piece or two from our "Hubris Collection."
Nov 9, 5pm - Peabody Hall, Parish of All Saints, Dorchester, MA - Having worked on this project for over a year, seeing this date closing fast is breathtaking. The newly created Mandorla Collective will celebrate the music of George Russell in a first of its kind performance, performing a program of George's music which has not been heard on stages since 2009. The band is unbelievable. Tickets strongly encouraged.
Nov 15, 7pm - West Stockbridge Historical Society - We are very excited to be going back to the West Stockbridge Historical Society - we, being my Trio with Sheryl Bailey and Yoron Israel - to pick up where we left off. Last time, we began our program trying to uncover some of the mysteries in jazz performances, then played a concert. This time, "Increase Your Jazz I.Q." is a program which will look more closely at the moving targets jazz musicians work with on stage.
Well, that's a lot, and it's all awesome. I can't wait to be on stage with these amazing musicians, and hope to see you there!
Thanks and see you soon!
Rick
